Santa Lucia Astronomical Observatory

1 Minute of reading

The Stroncone Astronomical Observatory stands near the small church of Santa Lucia, on a hill between Collescipoli and Stroncone at an altitude of 350 metres.

Osservatorio Astronomico di Santa Lucia

Founded in 1975 due to the passion of the entrepreneur Antonio Vagnozzi, in its years of activity TEAM Santa Lucia has been accredited by the Minor Planet Centre for the discovery of 53 asteroids, forty of which have been named after illustrious people from Terni (the first were the asteroids Stroncone and Terni).
Above all, it is credited with the discovery of two supernovae, SN 1996AE and SN 2004DG.

The observatory was built on two floors. On the upper floor there is a 500mm telescope with a Ritchey-Chrétien configuration, plus three other smaller telescopes and computers for automatic pointing. On the lower floor there is a conference room for twenty-five people, with computers, a video projector, tools and books on astronomy.

The G.I.A. (Gruppo Italiano Astrometristi), a reference point for asteroids and the A.T.A.M.B. (Associazione Ternana Astrofili Massimiliano Beltrame) were set up at the observatory.
