Finocchieto

Finocchieto, a small hamlet in the municipality of Stroncone, still preserves the structure of the ancient castle surrounded by walls.

Finocchieto

Its origins date back to feudal times, when uncultivated land was granted for the construction of castles or villas. Ancient documents testify to donations and territorial disputes, highlighting links with the powerful town of Narni.
Over the centuries, Finocchieto was plundered and involved in border disputes with neighbouring castles. However, its history is mainly characterised by a quiet life dedicated to agriculture and sheep farming.

The architecture of the village reflects its history, with the parish church dedicated to the martyr St. Vincent, dating back to the 13th century and has ancient decorative elements and inscriptions adorning the buildings.
St. Vincent, the deacon of Zaragoza is the patron saint of Finocchieto and the community celebrates his anniversary each year on 22 January with a popular festival. There are several evocative legends linked to the saint.

Just outside the town centre there is a small rural church dedicated to the Madonna del Carmine; a little further away, near the cemetery, there is a small oratory dedicated to the Virgin, built in 1530.
